Say YES

It is possible for hearts to connect

To cut through the babble of lies and fearmongering

To ignore the agenda-driven noise of politicians

Nothing of substance

Nothing that progressed society

Nothing that made life better for everyone

Was ever achieved

By saying NO when you didn’t know but couldn’t be bothered to find out

By saying NO because you wanted all the details to fall in your lap

By saying NO because of

Mean-spiritedness or

Prejudice

We need to say YES

To propositions that benefit those in need

Even if nothing is going to land in our pockets

We need to say YES

When our hearts urge us to do something good

Even if we don’t personally know the beneficiaries

We need to say YES

When the cost to us is zero

But the benefit to thousands is great

We need to say YES

To embracing the dispossessed

To acknowledging their pain

To imparting healing

To restoring their pride

To re-establishing their proper place

In the history of their country
